Goal
As cities continue to grow, so do the lives of those in which inhabit them. Urban life, especially in places like New York City, are multifaceted. Commuting is a constant, the occasion in which one finds themselves in is ever changing. Working in the studio, and then riding a bike through the rain to a dinner at night. Ever changing weather calls for adaptive apparel. These were the issues I found myself dealing with, and the ones I chose to tackle with this project.
A survey was taken with the intention of developing a better understanding of our relationship with clothing (specifically waterproof and water resistant garments) and how it is affected by weather and travel. By asking a range of questions regarding how weather affects you while commuting, your relationship with personal style in inclement weather, and pros and cons of current waterproof garments you already own, I was able to develop a better understanding of who I am designing for and why. Responses varied, but overall provided a strong data set in preference to a multi-use well designed water-resistant garment.
This provided me with a clear path forward and affirmed my belief that there was a need for multi-use clothing that can adapt to inclement weather.
